Murder at the Brightwell

Client : AARP (American Association of Retirement Persons)
Project : Spot Illustrations for 2 chapters
Theme : Art Deco, 1930's Vintage
Period : Middle of March ~ Early of April

Murder at the Brightwell is Ashley Weaver’s mysterious novel backgrounded in early 21st century England. The story begins with young and rich people gathered at the Brightwell hotel for a vacation but there’s something happened - a murder.

I was in charge of creating illustrations based on the client’s notes. They wanted to see the 1930s mood, Art Deco, vintage, and boutique look. I researched some art deco props such as a huge mirror with art deco style decorations, attires at that time, interior for the car, suit bag, building, and so on.

Overall color palette started with bright gold colors and changed to a gloomy dark tone after the murder happened. Not too many details, but I focused on the overall moods.
