9th Francisco Mantecon International Advertising Poster Competition

Terras Gauda is a winery located in Pontevedra, Spain. I was a college student when I participated in this contest after saw this competition from graphic design competition. They said it is international poster contest and the grand prix winner could get 10,000 euro and the winner’s will be used as wine label. This was really tempting me since I want to have a chance to create wine label but it was difficult to get an idea, good idea.
One night, I sat on the chair and struggled with illustrator “how to make it without many colors, what is the taste of wine(I even didn’t taste before brainstorming)?.” I just pick bristle brush and create outline without any sketching. Yes, this poster was created by accidentally. Luckily, mine listed on the final list out of around 6,000 posters. I can’t forget the day when I got email from the hosting company that my artwork has been selected as one of finalists. After few years later, while I was shopping on beverage shop, I could see the wine (but it had old label – not the winner’s label) and had a chance to taste it. With my dumb taste bud, it was just another white wine, but has a lot meaning to me.
우연히 찾아온 기회
이름도 생소한 회사, 거기다가 미국도 아니고 유럽, 게다가 스페인하고 포르투갈의 경계에 있는 지역에서 주최한 포스터 대회입니다. 지금은 2년에 한 번 열리는것으로 바뀌었는데 아무래도 지역이 지역이다보니 유럽 그 중에서 스페인이 초강세를 보이는 competition입니다. 이전에 일본, 홍콩 등지에서 간간히 아시아인이 출품을 했었지만 한국사람은 한명도 없더군요. 그래서 과감하게 도전을 해보았습니다.
마셔보지도 않은 와인이이고 무슨 느낌을 전달해주어야할까 고민을 하다가 문득 원료 그 자체에 초점을 맞추어보면 어떨까 하는 생각에 포도를 그리고 bristle brush로 질감을 나타내고자 했습니다. 그리고 와인병의 윤곽을 나타내서 이게 와인이라는 것을 보여주고 최대한 포도에 집중할 수 있게 검정색을 배경으로 정하였습니다.
